Since we've had a chicken story, and thankfully our chooks have been up to no good, so here ya go.....
A few months ago they stopped laying. All of them. Just like that, for no apparent reason. We've been trying to work it out ever since.
Well, part of the puzzle fell into place today. That is, after the first part of the story from Sunday.
We had a fairly lazy Sunday as Matt and Dan were sick and I wasn't so flash. We were mucking around at home, when I went past the front door and saw a shadow there. I stood there trying to work out whether it was a shadow. It seemed like about 20sec, when I thought, just open the door.
When I did, our neighbour was standing there looking sheepish with a box in his hands. He was obviously struggling with how to tell us his news. This is a neighbour we've had 'challenges' with in the last year.
He finally stammered that he found our chicken in his bedroom. The cat had brought it in and there were feathers everywhere.
We looked inside and there was Goldilocks. Shaken, but ok. We thanked him profusely and told him not to worry, that this is what cats do.
Then we took Goldilocks inside and kept her in the lounge for the afternoon, giving her food and water hoping she would calm down.
Then today, our neighbour knocks on the door again. It seems there is a chicken loose on a street down from ours. Could it be ours? Oh my! We thanked him again and went chasing chickens. Sure enough there was Dora.
And usually they come to me calling, but not today! The kids are squealing as I start chasing, and everytime she goes near one of them, they squeal, instead of trying to catch her.
Its not a big road, but the kids are worried she's going to get hit by a car, its not working, and I'm sick. So Matt races back to the house and grabs some food. AHHHH!
Magic. We scattered some about, leading to Matt's outstretched hands filled with food. We are soooooo good at this! LOL.
As soon as she starts pecking at Matt's hands I grab her and we all shriek with joy!
Coming back to the house, a courier van is parked outside. We all walk in, triumpant with Dora in my arms and the courier guy looks at us like we're nuts.
Excuse me I say, let me just put our chook back in her coop, and I'll be right with you.
You've just gotta roll with these things right?!
And as it turns out, that parcel was filled with Dusty Attic goodness for my SENZ classes. So good. I can't wait to share it all with you! Speaking of which, have you booked in yet? Classes are on sale now! Don't miss out!
Later.
PS: while talking to the neighbour today I worked out that the new cat that is terrorising the chooks, has been there as long as they've stopped laying! ARGH! And as I caught the cat in their run today (and chased it away!), I think we're going to have to rethink the whole set up!
