This year I've made a commitment to myself to start exercising again. I miss it. But with 3 children under 5 I've used that as an excuse not to (apart from the fact it is harder to work it into the day).
So for my exercise today I took myself off for something different - a bush walk.
The place I went has special significance to Andy and I. Prior to children when we lived in Birkenhead we would run through this bush. It was perfect training for Coast to Coast, Head to Head or any other event we were aiming towards. It had tracks in fair to poor condition (with amazing views) which meant it was the pefect type of thing to condition our ankles to get stronger. Also being on a cliff meant we could go up and down these tracks raising our heart rates like you wouldn't believe, dragging our sad bodies along, while they ached with fatigue. And we loved it.
Later after children we went back there for a very private and personal reason. And it will forever be part of our favourite spots in Auckland due to that.
Today I went back to soothe the body and soul. I figured as it was bush the shade would protect me from the heat while I'm still getting my exercise, plus the surroundings would soothe my soul. Such a great tonic.
And I was right. I was only planning on doing a 'short' walk, but once I got where I initially planned, I decided I really did 'need' to go down to the beach and back up the other side. Gut renching stuff, but wonderful.
I took my camera to capture a part of today.
And yes, the sky and sea were really that blue, and the trees really that green. I'm lucky to live in a beautiful country!
In the meantime my children have been playing happily in the pool next door while Linn looks after them. Bliss.
Hope you've had a great day too.
