Been a big few days for my three. Thought I'd jot some memories down...
Over the weekend, Matt went and spent some time at my Dad's place. He had a wonderful time. Got tired out, did some things that normally he wouldn't (like going to an antique model show) and generally being a little boy with his Granddad and Grandma.
I felt very priviledged to be given a special gift when he got home.
It's made of metal and very cute. It's now sitting on my scrap desk where I can remember my special boy's thoughtfulness.
Poppa and Pene brought Matt to the rugby prize giving and it was wonderful to share that time with them.
Matt got a 5 year medal. He started really early!
Dan was awarded "Most promising player" in his team. He was given his medal by Anthony Borich (Spelling?) and Michael (someone?) eeeek. Pretty cool.
Then yesterday my girl Sarah got two plates in her mouth. The start of orthodontic work that needs doing. We've gone the 'new' or 'alternative' way for her so she can start early and hopefully not have any teeth pulled out. It should all be over before she hits high school which is amazing!
So the two plates she's got now will move her teeth slowly into the positions they should have been in, over time. She will then graduate to a different plate system which will help her tongue sit in the right place so that it doesn't change the shape of her mouth again, and then she will have traditional braces for approx 6months.
She was very brave, but we did have a few tears and now she's speaking with a bit of a lisp. I remember getting a plate and it did take a few days to get over that side of it. I'm extremely proud of how she dealt with the start of this new phase of her life.
I let her take the rest of the day off and when we went into school to pick up the boys a couple of her friends ran up asking if she was ok, and why was she away. We told them and then Sarah showed them her new plates. They thought they were very cool! And they are. Sarah choose to have blue and pink glitter plates. WTG! Wee bit different to the ugly pink/skin coloured one I had!
Hopefully things will settle down a little now for them as we get back into a bit of a routine after having a couple of trips lately.

Trina, both my girls have gone down the "alternative" orthodontic route. Katherine had to have an expander plate for about 9 months to reshape her face. She's about to turn 15 and 2 days after her birthday will have finished her treatment. It was the best thing we did as the traditional ones didn't even want to start her until now. She's almost all done and has friends who are just starting. I know where I'd rather be as a teenager. Good luck to Sarah.

primary school days are fun and the kids really enjoy you being there, sadly as they enter high school you hardly ever see them at school as they become young adults! good photos Trina!

I hope that Sarah has gotten used to her plates, it really doesn't take long and they forget they have them in. We went the early route with Marnie (she started at 7) and she is now 15 and has the most perfect smile. We knew at 3 that she would need early work and I was not going to go down the track like my sister and I did and have 8 and 10 teeth removed! A friend of ours dd who is also 15 waited and she has just had her jaw broken! Early is not for everyone but if they need the room, it is such a good way to go. We both have problems with our jaws as a result of having it done this way.
I'm sure you will never regret going down this path and Sarah will thank you later on :)
