For those of you who read my blog regularly you'll know that I've been thinking about the state of our nation, whats going on with kids, families and how we can help. I've been thinking about giving and how I can contribute, I've challenged you guys to pay it forward. And its been great to see it in action.
Well last year I was able to actually DO something by helping a camp in Aussie called the Southern Cross Kids Camp. Its a camp that is held for abused and 'at risk' kids who aren't in the best of circumstances and they get to have fun. They get to be kids. They get to have memories they will cherish forever.
The way I helped was through a friend of mine Julie Stone. She is one of the helpers on the camp and she asked scrappers if they could contribute supplies so her and the other helpers could create mini books for their buddies to take home.
Alot of the time these books are the only photos these children have of their childhoods, and it gives them hope and memories of a wonderful time.
Well I couldn't help myself and I got involved by sending a heap of stuff. Afterwards, it was so rewarding to see the covers of the books and know what a difference it had made in a small persons world who doesn't really have much more to hang onto.
So the time is coming again for the SCKC but this time instead of being one camp, There will be two, back to back. So of course this means that it will be a huge effort for the helpers (who aren't scrapbookers) to make double the amount of books. So they are hoping to get a heap of pages done by scrappers who are willing to donate their time and supplies to make these pages. Which will make their job a heck of a lot easier!
So.....is anyone out there willing to create a page or two or even three?
The pages dont need to take a lot of time. But more simple pages so the photos are the feature. They will be 6x6 in size and will have one photo that goes on each page - 5x3.5
There are going to be 40 kids at each camp with 20 pages in each book. Thats a heck of a lot of pages she needs! If I've done my maths right, thats 1600 pages that she will need.
Julie has some examples of pages on her blog for you to check out if you want an idea of what she is after.
If you're interested in helping out, I'm going to coordinate all the kiwi pages so you don't have the cost of posting internationally.
So, What do you think? Are you keen? The camp is in 8 weeks so I really need your pages by Friday 21st March to enable me to send them onto Julie.
If you've got any questions, or want my address once you've made some pages, please email me.
I really hope you'll consider whether you can help in this way and put together something.
Thanks so much!
Trina.

It sounds like a wonderful cause, and I would love to help but I am already involved in a similar charity, called Care2Crop.
Good on you Trina for getting involved and for encouraging others to do the same!

It looks like a great cause. Is there anything like this in NZ do you know? I'd kind of prefer to do something for NZ kids if possible.
